i'm going black someday

well.  y'all really want me to finish that damn dress.  i am a bit shocked, to tell the truth.  but i'm forging ahead. and back.  and ahead.  and back.  AND #@&*! AHEAD.  i've ripped out so many seams i've lost count...and feeling in my right index finger.

but this weekend, i'm hanging blue bayou up, sticking her in the closet, and giving her the cold shoulder.  perhaps she doesn't want to be wanted.  she has a frosty air, you must admit.  i can play that game.  i am not needy!  I DON'T NEED YOU, BLUE DRESS!  YOU AND YOUR SHIFTY SEAMS!  YOU CAN HANG IN THE CLOSET TILL YOUR COLOR IS OFF TREND FOR ALL I CARE!  I'M GOING TO PLAY WITH GOLDEN BOUCLE LIKE THE PRETTY PRETTY PRINCESS I AM!!!

i'll get back to her on monday.

  6. I smile each time I read your blogs (and I have read each one for well over a year now), you are such a delight, even if you are talking about the weather. I have been meaning to ask - Why for goodness sake did you EVER stop making those wildly gorgeous belts of yours on ETSY????

    1. well thankyou so much!

you know, i went through almost every bit of technicolor leather i had, and when i returned to the scene of the crime, i found the fabric shop had changed owners, AND pricing. it just didn't make sense anymore, i would have had to mark prices waaaay up. but maybe one day i might do clothing...

  7. Love your writing! So unique! That dress will come back out of the closet begging you to finish it... Then you'll know it will behave as it should... Till then get on with another project ;)

  8. Oona - I'm going to be the voice of dissent here. I say walk away from the blue dress. I read your original post and many of the comments, but I'm not convinced that finishing the dress is a good idea. Last summer, I forced myself to finish a crochet top in bright orange. After I finished it, I was never happy with it, NEVER, so I gave it away to my sister. And I'm jealous every time she wears it because it looks so good on her. I think after this much of a struggle, its going to be really hard to like the final product. Pretty princess that you are, you deserve to love what you make and wear.

    1. i TRULY wanted to walk away from it a couple days ago (and, she's still in the closet) but i'm going to give myself one more day with her. after that, she's very much in danger of being the thing i spent too much time on. that last sentence of your should be our motto!

but, i bet your sis is happy.

  11. gorgeous, gorgeous boucle! I love working with the fabric, but I hate underlined and machine stitching rows and rows in order to stabalize the damn thing. Bless your heart if you have patience for that.

  12. IF you feel like you'll never love the way you look in it, I say walk away. Just like SewOm said, I knitted this sweater last year. . I thought about half way through I didn't like it. . now that it's finished I never wear it and wish I had spent that time making some I adore.

  13. You totally sure that it's your right index finger that's gone numb by now...not the middle? ;)

  14. I feel your pain. Seems like we all have at least one of these project. Although knowing to walk away is easier said than done sometimes.

  15. Forcing yourself to do something is the worst. You have to do what is calling. The gold bucle is pretty darned awesome!

  17. Just visited Goodbye Valentino and saw your photo there. Am totally stalking you now 'coz I loooooove that dress. What pattern and fabric did you use? It looks amazing!

  18. Y'know, if you don't love the dress now then there's a pretty good chance you'll never wear it when it's finished? Although, here's a thought; finish it, get some fabric paint and brushes and splash some wild design all over it, treat it like a blank canvas, indulge in some sartorial graffiti-ing, have fun with it, make it more "you".
Now I've given you some unsolicited advice, that I've totally inspired myself to do that very same thing to some of my lesser loved things hanging in my own wardrobe... *off to the hardware store for paint*
