Oonaballoona | On getting bored with projects in process & sewing ruts!

The good (and also the Bad, and sometimes THE FUGLY) thing about making declarations on the internet is you're held accountable.

In the early hours of yesterday morn, I cut out vintage Simplicity 2222. Today, I savored adding rayon seam binding to the guts, and coming up with interesting substitutions for interfacing, and working out the collar... seconds ago, I looked at it and went nuts. Couldn't take another heartbeat of it. Couldn't even throw an iron on it before posting a PIP shot. COULD HARDLY WAIT TO FOLD THE MONSTROSITY UP AND GET IT OUT OF MY SIGHT. The Good: I stopped working and turned to something else.

The Bad: I didn't turn to any of the last three PIPs posted. And the Fugly: Eventually, if I keep up with this accountability thing, you are really going to see just how addicted I am.  I'm diving into my seventh By Hand London Anna. Whaddayagonnado. Yo, I need Anna the Seventh for OWOP!!! I don't have a problem! I CAN QUIT ANYTIME I WANT! Hey, let's change the subject! Are you playing? Once again, I'm turning to instagram to avoid bombarding you, and will do a wrap up later. Today, for a few brief morning hours, Errand Anna, an unblogged red & purple striped raw silk job, pranced about town. She made a lot of new friends, especially in Whole Foods. WHOAH, I said to the butcher, who was giving me an appreciative and respectable gaze, but was nevertheless picking the oldest sausages he could lay hands on,  How 'bout giving me those nice pink guys up top? Ya think?!

He seemed surprised. I MEAN. I KNOW MY MEAT. I'm not sure I've even ever been to the fish counter.

Apparently someone out there thinks I know a little bit about sewing, too (though that belief at times is as questionable as shellfish in summer) because somebody nominated me for a bloggy award at BurdaStyle. Thank you, very much, to anyone out there who did that, it was a very pleasant end of the week surprise! There are a lot of new-to-me blogs on the list, and friends who inspire me daily, as well as a lot of blogs missing that are hugely inspiring... it just goes to show, there's so much out there.

Speaking of, I have some ~unnumbered~ pips to get back to. Ahem. Several hems, actually. Happy weekend y'all!

  1. I have a dress from that fabric circa maybe 2009 in my closet! I love that fabric. (I used to love the dress, but I love it a little less now.)

  2. I've totally been contemplating another Anna! You just really can't have too many. Also, love the image of you giving the meat man sass at the whole foods. Probably won't be doing OWOP because deadlines and rules give me hives, but I love the idea!!
And congrats on being nominated for the burdastyle blog awards!! You are definitely on the top of my list!!

  5. I'm about to start my fourth anna and I haven't blogged any of them. I don't even deserve the SPORADIC descriptor anymore, boooooooo! I'll rectify it one of these days... Dooooont you....Forget about me. (There should be a music note key to symbolize when words should be sung a la cheesy eighties sap.)

    1. Do we need a note key for that one? * raises fist triumphantly and walks away *

I WANT. TO SEE. YOUR ANNAS.

  6. That's okay, even though my bedroom NEEDS those PIP curtains so I can stop flashing the neighbours, I couldn't help but work on my Nettie again today. Oh well, I guess as long as they don't mind the show haha

  7. Is that a row of chocolate bars on the wall? I think I really need to add a shelf of chocolate to my sewing space now. Smart.

  8. How can you keep that chocolate in sight while you sew and not eat all of it. You may not have willpower when it comes to your Annas but at least you can ration your fancy treats

    2. Props, eh? once in a while we'll finish a bar, but I'll keep the box till a replacement comes along. Interesting, tho, i am able to eat them slowly... Will have to unpack that...

  9. Definitely make that Anna! When you love it ... indulge yourself. Make as many as you'd like. Every single one of your Anna's are so unique. It's my opinion you can't even tell they are the same pattern. Sew on my friend .... sew on!!!

  10. This is why you should look forward to menopause. When it's done, you can't remember what you said you were going to finish, and you don't care. (I speak from experience.) Estrogen is overrated.

  11. I want to come and dive in your colorful PIPs. Or maybe I want to see how you set fire to something that needs to go down as a UFO. For me the fun is definitely in the process... finishing? meh. Hear, here for PIPS!

  12. I think I have that same fabric showing for your Simplicity dress. I have never made anything from it as I have totally forgotten that I had it. Sorry the pattern is not working for you but I am glad I saw the fabric.
