IT HAS BEGUN

Perched in my new favorite spot (the windowsill overlooking flowers and concrete), I looked over at Ruggy, arms outstretched, and sang Do you know what day it is???

Yes, he said, it's August 1st and the start of your birthday week. You're beeauuuuuuuuutiful and I looooooooove you he crooned back, as he strode over to give me a hug and a kiss, and a fresh pour of coffee.

Best start to a birthday week ever.

Just popping in to say your oonapalooza makes are making me equally as happy!!!  I'll be doing a roundup post on Monday, so if you're not on my 'palooza pinterest board, it means I haven't found you, or you're only on flickr and I can't pin you (also, some flickr photos aren't tagged "oonapalooza" and I don't want to assume everyone in the group is sewing pour moi. That would be supremely bratty and totally out of character; see above story). Please holler at me if I've missed you, here or via email if you'd like to send a photo! And jump on over to the Sewcialists for their roundups and this month's theme: sharing the spotlight, with a tribute to the inspiring blogger of your choice. WONDERFUL. I have about 10 posts ready for that before the month has even begun....

***eta: thank you for the lovely birthday wishes, everyone!!***

  4. I'm so pleased with the kind of inspiration people took from this month! I don't think anyone made anything costumy - it's all what they wear in real life, just with a good excuse to amp it up!

Oh, and I'm not on your pinterest board! ;) http://crafting-a-rainbow.tumblr.com/post/92928734497/oonapalooza-dress-done

  10. Happy Birthday week, its nice to know there are other sewists out there who also claim a whole week for their birthday, there's just too much to celebrate in one day right? I posted my dress in the flickr pool but didn't label it or make it obvious that it was part of the sewalong, sorry!! The linen shibori tye dye was my attempt to live on the edge like Oona might! Enjoy your week of spoiling!!

  15. A very HAPPY Birthday to you Oona Lady! I like your style. Everyone needs a birthday WEEK! I insisted that I was entitled to two full birthday days this year, given the time difference between Australia and the US. I have to say, it is so much more fun celebrating a birthday in summer, than in the dead of winter (even the soft little wimpy winters we have in Sydney). Clink clink, cheers!

  16. Happy Birthday Oona!! I am so happy to hear that I am not the only one who celebrates a whole week. Woo hoo! I was too late to the show for Oonapalooza, but please know that you inspire my sewing and blogging all the time! So glad the Sewcialists took time to appreciate your awesomeness!

  21. Happy birthday!!! (week) So excited to see the roundup of Oonapalooza makes. I missed this go-round sewing theme, but at some point I will sew in time for one of them. Can I still make an Oonapalooza make post-Oonapalooza?

  30. I can't believe I out-birthday celebrate Oona. World Shaken.

May I recommend the adoption of a Birthday Season? Advantages: Planning is ever so much easier. People needn't feel bad for missing a particular date, and have lots of opportunities to remember. (Of course, a Magpi is all about reminding. No judgement, just reminders!) Sales can be taken advantage of. Also, since we are Project People, incidental BUT CRUCIAL items are not Birthday Experience Blockers. (This BS is all about Alabama Chanin. I'm stopping to pick up adhesive spray after work.)

Magpi-mas (aka Birthday Season) lasts more than a month, and begins wheneverMyFirstPackageArrivesEvenIfIHaveToOrderItMyself. (Planning BS starts shortly after tax season. Many iterations are required to settle on the theme and packages.) This year, it began near the end of July. (However, my actual birthday is the very last day of BS, because sweetie's birthday is 23 days after mine, and he has no prayer of getting much attention if I drag mine out beyond my actual day late in August.

Happy B, and don't overindulge so much that you might want long term care insurance!
