promaballoona around the blogisphere!

oooh i have to share some prom goodness in the making...

I DID NOT MAKE THESE DRESSES.  but if i owned one, i might just lie and say that i did.  (i'll take the one with the hot pink rosette the size of alabama, thankya.)  do you know angela of bonne chance, the re-creator of these vintage pieces of heaven?  iffn ya don't, hop on over and meet her... she has an absolutely sweet blog that i've been happily stalking, and oh la la!  she's draping a prom dress!  wait till you see the curves on this jammie...

also in the works, some serious prom action from the girl with the star spangled heart... stephanie has made not one, but TWO muslins of a droolworthy advance vintage pattern and i can't wait to see the finished result!

this could be dangerous, as both ladies are already-in or will-be-in LA during promaballoona weekend.  i'm feeling a meetup in all our finery is necessary.  if this happens, surely i'm going to have to find a way to keep from snatching these dresses off the respective owners.

are you making a prom dress for the kalkatroonaan birthday festivites?  lemme know!  if you're not celebrating virtually and are in town, would you be interested in a meetup?  lemme know!

SO MANY EXCLAMATORY POINTS!!!!

  1. I am SICK that the in person Promaballoona won't be held in NYC!! Damn you, LA. I shake my fist at you!!

Ahem...anyway. If Fed Ex ever decides to stop holding my new machine hostage, I get freaking started on my dress.

  2. Holy crapola, it's a wonder the envy is not corroding my computer screen just looking at these. Curse distance and money and grown-up(ish) responsibilities! I do have my Promaballoona gown selected, however, so at least there's that...

  4. hahah I love your blog.

You need to do more "Oonadoesit", it's been a while. Surely the prom is a perfect challenge to post about!

I'm going to be twirling up a storm in a frou frou, possibly mullet hem, fish print number but it's kinda for my bday rather than yours... soz. I'll do a spin for you though if you return the favour.

  7. I'm seriously not going to get a dress done in time for your birthday but I'm STARTING on it as soon as I finish two circle skirts for a um... secret project I'll be announcing later. But I have to have my couture lace and crepe de chine dress done before Dragon*Con cause there's a red carpet event (complete with paparazzi).

  9. Ungungung. I got a headband for my birthday that would exactly match the pink of that giant rosette...

Promabalooning for sure, here--will be my last project before packing all my sewing junk up for the move to Canada(!), might as well do something epic, right?

  12. Planning to finish that graduation ball dress, and thinking of the best ways to spice it up... What shoes to wear to me justice to a Kalkatroonan event? So yes, count me in virtually.
Oh, and I'm wearing your bangles now. Just so you know. The best way of spicing up an outfit pretty much without feeling it. ;-)

    2. Alas, my shoe collection is limited. And I've just spent what I had allowed myself on shopping for a while on a fabulous hat... I'll probably make do with brown+yellow piping... http://tinyurl.com/ct7o6or http://tinyurl.com/c4xcjsm ... and try to incorporate that shawl, too. Maybe.

  13. Looks like I need to find some fancy fabric. Now I have a place to go for Promaballona.

  14. Hmmm, what if we could get simultaneous Promaballoonas going on ALL OVER THE WORLD???

I found some gorgeous sheer curtains for $0.25 at a garage sale...looks like I just have to choose a pattern! And find lining. And oh, sew it all...

  15. Gorgeous dresses!! Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to whip up a dress in time for Promaballoona, but picture me there in spirit, DRINKING spirits, in this gown (with the help of more than a few chicken fillets).

I am super-obsessed with this new tinybabyperson who arrived in our family and it's been cutting into my sewing time, but I'm gonna enter the Tessuti comp. Will you enter too? If YOU win, you can come to OZ for a meet up here!!!!!

    1. oh wow. that gown in ridiculously awesome. you should make THAT for tessuti. i mean, it looks SUPER easy and wouldn't cut much into newtinybabyperson time.

sadly i haven't found any fabrics in the online collection that grab me... i even emailed to see if some other dots & stripes on the site were kosher but no go :(. i figured if i throw all that mula down i'd better like the fabric... so i'll just be voting. FOR YOU.

    1. it makes me so happy to hear that!

when i want to go big but have limited time, i like to pick one thing i haven't done before-- like a slashed zipper, or a new handstitch.
