Ogden Cami Guts!

This is a public service announcement.

If you don't know what to sew this weekend, and you want to make approximately 400 things, go get the Ogden Cami from True Bias and get cracking, you mini sweatshop of a sewist, you.

I made two in a four hour session, one in this linen pictured, and one in a silk CDC. AND NEITHER WERE FOR ME. WHAT THE WHAT Y'ALL. So, I can't attest to the personal fit yet, but the blogisphere of selfish sewists love it, and man is it a quick and pretty sew!

And methinks there haven't been many shots of the innards, so...

FACING AS MODESTY SHIELD! HERE IS HOW TO GET ME INTO A FACING! HERE IS HOW TO LOWER RUGGY'S BLOOD PRESSURE RE: MY CONSTANT REFUSAL TO WEAR A BRA!

Really, it's 100% legal for the ladies to go topless in NYC. Did you know this? I SO want to do this. But again, husbandly blood pressure.

This is a great satisfying sew for the advanced sewist, but I think it would also be a fantastic sew for the beginner-- you can take your time on it, and employ all of the proper techniques (staystitching, grading, clipping curves, understitching, and of course, pressing all the livelong sew) without reaching that point of just wanting your party dress finished, know what I mean? It's great practice with an excellent chance of win.

I used the wildly popular Colette instagram video to turn the beautifully thin straps, and used french seams on the side seams. Tip! If you have gorilla paws like me, when you insert the strap through the facing on the back, use a large safety pin to give yourself something to grab onto.

Kelli sent me this pattern gratis cuz we're buds, but this is my honest, unbiased weekend PSA-- I'm not into sewing things that don't make me happy! Seriously, I have to go make fifty more of these. Or at least two more, since I snagged some pretties whilst out with some banging chicks yesterday. My size is up next! I *think*. I don't know what's come over me...I've sewn no less than 5 garments for others since August 1, a date generally recognized around these parts as the start of MY BIRTHDAY MONTH IN WHICH ALL OF THE UNIVERSE REVOLVES AROUND ME.

WOOHOOOOOO WEEKEND SEWING!!!

  1. Beautiful...both the pattern and the fabric! Where did you pick up that lovely pink and white linen? And interesting that Ruggy doesn't like when you are sans bra. Seems like most husbands would enjoy a little extra jiggle in their day. ;)

  2. Gorgeous! I totally agree with everything you say! I have made two cami's (one rayon and one linen) and have also lengthened the pattern for a linen dress. Seriously everyone needs to buy this pattern before summer is over!

  6. How on earth did I manage to miss that Colette video... I need to go make some skinny straps right away; that is brilliant. And cut this selfless sewing OUT woman, you're making the rest of us look bad! 😂

  7. We're on the same wavelength. I've sewn two, tried to switch gears and make some pants, and found myself cutting out a third.

  8. Gorgeous!! I was trying not to buy any more patterns, there is not enough time to sew what's in my head. I thought I didn't need this pattern but now you've shown me I DO!!! Hmmm in some nice drapey merino too maybe 😍

  9. I could leave that video on repeat all day long. Now I think I have to go watch Beetlejuice again. Love me some Harry Belafonte.

THAT LINEN CAMI IS GORGEOUS! I don't wear camis and I want one.

  13. Very nice - definitely on my list. It might be easier to attach the straps to the back first and adjust the length from the front....

  14. Happy Birthday Month, fellow Leo! I also take the entire month (it is a birth rite, described in the fine print on our birth certificates, right?). That cami looks fantastic! I celebrated with a Bollywood inspired party (and coordinating dress). It was a blast!

I hope you have fabulous things planned to celebrate too.

  15. I go bra-less 95% of the time. If I have to wear a bra with it it usually gets thrown into a corner of the room. Haha!

  16. Loving the cami, I need some of these in my life. It has reminded me of one I used to have that had elastic at the bottom of the facing to hold everything in (and up!!!) I might give it a try with this pattern.

  17. I need to make this! I love the style plus the half-lining/facing! I also happen to have just got that same beautiful linen from Mood. I might have to copy you!

  18. GORGEOUS. I'm supposed to be doing some unselfish sewing today, but seeing that cami makes me want to run for the fabric store and get all selfish again!

  19. Five selfless sewing makes?! You must be scoring some sweet karma right about now :D
I had no idea this pattern had a facing as a modesty shield - I loathe facings but could get on board for this version.
    Have fun making your own!!

  20. Beautiful! Perfect summer top pattern and I love that fabric. I don't think it would work for me though. My "girls" like some support and I too old fashioned to let my bra straps show.

  21. OOOH squeak love it, and to not wear a bra ahhhh freedom. I must get the pattern! Summer is on it's way here in Australia.

  22. love the cut of that cami, and i totally need that fabric too! and all the yeses to being bra free all the time (luckily, nikola is a big supporter of that :))
